The USA is the fourth largest country in the world. It consists of fifty states, two of them, Alaska and Hawaii, are not connected to the other states.
The USA is washed by the Pacific Ocean in the west, by the Atlantic Ocean in the east, by the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico in the south. In the north are Great Lakes.
The climate of the country varies greatly. The climate along the Pacific coast is much warmer than that of the Atlantic coast.
The capital of the country is Washington. The population is about 313 million people.
The highest mountains are the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada. The highest peak is Mount McKinley. It is 6193 meters high.
The US is a land of rivers and lakes. The largest and deepest lakes are the five Great lakes on the border with Canada. America’s largest rivers are the Mississippi, the Missouri, the Rio Grande and the Columbia.
The USA was opened by Christopher Columbus in the XV century. In 1789 George Washington was elected the first president. In 1865 the slavery was abolished all over the USA.
There are many important cities in the USA. New York is one of the largest cities in the world. People all over the world know such great cities as Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc.
The USA became independent in 1787. The federal government consists of three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. There are two main political parties in the USA: the Republicans and the Democrats.
The USA is rich in iron and coal. From the beginning of the 20th century, the USA became the world’s leading country.
